ME: Baby was smothered in Brooklyn

Monday, June 15, 2009

The medical examiner says a 2-month-old boy found dead in Brooklyn was smothered.

Authorities were called to the Wingate section on a report of an unconscious infant around 4 p.m. Sunday.

Responding officers found the boy not breathing. FDNY EMS workers attempted CPR, but the child did not respond. The boy was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Tuquan Bennett-Shuler. Authorities say he had no obvious signs of trauma.

His parents were being questioned at the 71st Precinct.

The family moved to the apartment around two months ago, around the same time the child was born. Police are trying to figure out what happened inside the apartment before the 911 call.
