BROOKLYN (WABC) -- An arrest was made early Wednesday in the brutal attack on an architecture student from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
Eddy Sanchez, 22, remains in a coma after being robbed and beaten.
A few years ago, Eugene Adams was barely old enough to lift a crowbar. Now, the 16-year-old is charged with using one to smash his victim's skull.
Witnesses described it as a heartless, merciless attack that left Sanchez in a coma for eight days.
Mariam Farnum knows because she saw the attack on surveillance video from her office just down the street."It was horrible," she said. "It wouldn't stop. They just wouldn't stop hitting him."
It happened last week at 10 p.m. at the corner of Lexington and Grand avenues.
Sanchez was walking to the Pratt campus, where he is a graduate student in architecture. But moments after he left his apartment, police say he was confronted by several teenagers who demanded his wallet.
When he refused, police say, he was attacked. He was reportedly punched and kicked repeatedly until Adams allegedly finished him off with the crowbar.
Detectives say Adams and the others were later caught on camera on a spending spree with Eddy's credit cards.
Pratt has released the following statement:
"Our thoughts are with Eduardo Sanchez and his family, as we continue to hope for his quick recovery."
As many as four other teens may have been involved in the attack, but no other arrests were immediately made.
