Massive fire tears through Queens building

HUNTERS POINT (WABC) -- A third-alarm fire spewed heavy smoke that prompted the temporary shutdown of the inbound Long Island Expressway.

Newscopter-7 was live over the scene.

Eyewitness News has learned the fire erupted in a commercial building on 27th Street just before 6 a.m.

Heavy smoke spewed from the fire and across the inbound lanes of the nearby elevated Long Island Expressway.

The lanes were shortly reopened afterward, but big delays still remain as drivers approach the Queens Midtown Tunnel.

No injuries were immediately reported.
