Arrest made in Manhattan robbery spree

GREENWICH VILLAGE (WABC) -- A man has been arrested in connection with seven home invasion robberies, most of them in Greenwich Village.

The suspect, identified as 52-year-old William Rodriguez, was taken into custody in a hotel on Davidson Avenue in the Bronx.

He reportedly has 17 prior arrests, including one in 1988 for attempting to shoot a NYPD officer. His 25-year arrest record also includes robbery and attempted burglary charges.

This recent crime-spree began on October 8 and went on for nearly a month. In most cases, police say he posed as a delivery man and pushed his way in after the victims opened their doors expecting to sign for a package.

The first robbery happened near Washington Square Park on 9th Street just off Fifth Avenue. Eight days later, he struck at 4:30 in the afternoon on Bank Street. Another incident occurred on October 25 at 7 p.m. in Morningside Heights. Then, he returned to Bank Street four days later at 5 in the afternoon. He hit on November 2 at about the same time on West 12th Street. The latest incident happened Wednesday on West 81st Street.

All of the victims were tied-up but otherwise were unharmed. Charges are pending.
