I-95 in Conn. reopens after big rig fire

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Authorities say two of the three northbound lanes on a busy stretch of Interstate 95 in southwestern Connecticut are open again after a fire in a tractor-trailer carrying methanol.

All northbound lanes of I-95 in Fairfield had been blocked since the incident at 4:30 a.m. Monday, diverting tens of thousands of rush hour commuters. Two lanes reopened shortly before 11 a.m.

No injuries were reported in the truck fire, and the methanol did not ignite.

That portion of I-95 carries up to 135,000 vehicles daily, according to state data, and is a major commuting route to and from New York City.
