STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- A mob sweep collected 22 reputed high-level members of Gambino and Luccesse crime families Wednesday morning, arrested at their homes across Staten Island in a bid-rigging case.
Police say the coordinated early-morning busts also netted a deputy chief in the Sanitation Department and a corrections officer.
The suspects were reportedly caught up in an ongoing bid rigging case spanning the five boroughs.
Arrested was Sanitation Department Deputy Chief Frederick Grimaldi, a 19-year veteran who was months from getting his pension. He is 44-years-old and lives in Marlboro, New Jersey. He worked in Manhattan.
Also arrested was a corrections officer assigned to Brooklyn State Supreme Court.
The arrests also involved bribery, loan sharking and illegal sports gambling.
