The owner of New York's Indian Point nuclear power plant are challenging the state's recommendation to use the pricier cooling towers system.

Plant owner Entergy is asking state environmental officials for permission to use underwater river screens in the Hudson River instead of building cooling towers that would cost $1.5 billion.

An Entergy spokesman says the screens are also environmentally superior.

But the environmental group Riverkeeper says that argument "is just not accurate."

The group says the towers would not interfere with river water at all.

Entergy has gone to court to challenge a state recommendation to use the pricier cooling system.
