GREENWICH VILLAGE (WABC) -- A 41-year-old man died in a high rise fire in Greenwich Village.
The fire broke out inside the East 12th Street building, between 5th Avenue and University Avenue, just after 11:30 a.m.
The victim was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The fire is believed to have started on the sixth floor.
The building houses Gotham Bar and Grill on its ground floor and condos on floors above.
Officials are not sure how and why the fire started.
