FREEPORT (WABC) -- Police on Long Island are at the scene of a deadly hit and run that happened on a busy roadway in Freeport early Monday.
Investigators are actively working the scene, searching for clues. A pair of sneakers about 30 feet apart could be seen on Sunrise Highway, illustrating the impact of this fatal crash.
Police say the incident happened around 1 a.m. when a man in his 30s attempted to cross the highway between Ocean and Bergen roads.
The driver did not stop at the scene, and the victim was pronounced dead when authorities arrived.
Authorities have not released a description of the vehicle.
Police placed markers on the street at about a dozen locations as they continue to gather clues.
The victim's identity has not been released.
