BELLMORE (WABC) -- You could describe Dave Mahler as the spy next door. He's in the business of surveillance and it shows.
Now Mahler thinks he caught a burglary suspect red-handed, lurking around his own home.
A couple of homes in the neighborhood have been burglarized recently.
On Tuesday morning, it appears the suspect tried to break into Mahler's home.
On the surveillance video, you see the man approaching the front door in broad daylight.
He can be seen at the back sliding glass door, but Mahler believes his friend's dog Rex scared the would be intruder away.
Moments later, the same guy leaves after getting picked up by a car on the street.
Mahler has used surveillance on his house for the last six years, but he had no idea he had captured anything until he noticed his gate was open. Now, he's installing six more cameras.
