BEDFORD-STUVESANT (WABC) -- A 4-month-old girl has died after being pulled from a fire in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
The fire broke out just after 1 p.m. inside the first floor of a four-story apartment building on Greene Avenue.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and got reports that there was a child trapped in the building, and the girl's father was trying to get back in to rescue him.
Firefighter Daniel Insardi, a 28-year veteran of the force from Ladder 102, broke down the back door and went in to get Aniyah Vaughn. She was rushed to Woodhull Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition with facial and respiratory burns. The baby was stabilized and was transported to the burn center at NY Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Vaughn had burns over the majority of her body.
Fire officials say the fire was caused by a child playing with a lighter.
That child's relationship to the injured baby girl is not known.

Anyone who suspects their child has an interest in fire, playing with fire, etc is urged to call 311 and ask for more information on the confidential program.
