January 22, 2013 (NORTH CHICAGO, Ill.) -- A battle is brewing over the death of a man who was allegedly beaten by North Chicago police.
The Lake County Coroner reclassified Darrin Hanna's 2011 death as a homicide and said that he has new information about the case.
Hanna's death was previously ruled "undetermined".
He died a week after relatives say he was beaten and tasered by police who arrested him in a domestic violence incident.
His family claims the beating led to his death.
Hanna's relatives attended a committee meeting Tuesday evening at North Chicago's City Hall.
North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham Jr. released a statement saying that he respectfully disagrees with the coroner's findings and the city will not change its position on the matter.
