LI man kills elderly mother, then attempts suicide

BRENTWOOD (WABC) -- A Long Island man is under arrest after police say he killed his mother and then attempted suicide.

Juan Gonzalez, 69, allegegly suffocated his mother in the Brentwood home they shared. He then tried to kill himself.

Suffolk County police responded to a call at 40 Wilson Street on Friday and found 98-year-old Teresa Astete dead in her bed.

Gonzalez, who was injured from the suicide attempt, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

It was determined that Gonzalez killed his mother on May 29. He is charged with second-degree murder.
