Pharmacy robbed; Medford case heads to grand jury
FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (WABC) -- A grand jury will hear from the man accused of killing four people during a drug store robbery on Long Island Monday.
This comes as police investigate another pharmacy robbery in a neighboring town.
At her arraignment Friday, Brady pleaded not guilty to robbery.
But her confession to police says she helped plan the robbery at Haven Drugs in Medford and drove the getaway car. Laffer's lawyer says Brady should be facing the same murder charges as her husband, but it appears she has made a deal with prosecutors.
Police say Laffer shot 45-year-old pharmacist Raymond Ferguson once in the abdomen, then killed 17-year-old store clerk Jennifer Mejia before pumping two more shots into Ferguson. When customers Bryon Sheffield, 71, and Jamie Taccetta, 33, walked into the store, Laffer allegedly snuck up behind them and shot them in the back of the head.
Meanwhile, police now have another drug-store robbery to solve.
Just a week after the murders in Medford, a thief robbed a CVS pharmacy just minutes away on Horseblock Road in Farmingville.
Police released a surveillance picture of the suspect late Monday.
Police say the suspect first asked about the availability of narcotic pain killers, then left the store. He returned minutes later with a note demanding the drugs and cash. He got what he wanted and escaped.
"It's very scary, and I wouldn't want my children, when they reach working age, to work in a pharmacy," Farmingville resident Denise Mullins said. "It makes me nervous. I think someday they may be buzzing people into pharmacies the way they buzz people into some jewelry stores."
The suspect is described as a thin white male, about 5-foot-8 and in his early 20s.
In response to the incidents, Senator Charles Schumer is calling for tighter controls on powerful pain killers.
