Great Neck tops dating site's cheating rankings

GREAT NECK (WABC) -- A Long Island community ranked at the top of dating website AshelyMadison.com's list of towns in the New York area with the most cheaters.

Great Neck sits atop the rankings, which suggests that ritzier areas are also filled with people likely to stray from their spouses.

"There seems to be a disproportionate amount of cheating spouses in affluent areas and neighborhoods in New York," AshleyMadison.com CEO Noel Biderman told the New York Post.

Park Slope, Brooklyn, was second on the list, followed by the Upper East Side, Forest Hills (Queens) and TriBeCa.

The tiny, affluent suburb of New City placed sixth. Douglaston was seventh, followed by Riverdale, Howard Beach. Garden City rounded out the list.

Biderman told the newspaper that those who live or commute to New York City are especially prone to cheat because they may be wealthier and have more opportunities.

"In the New York area in particular, with successful people, there may be more cheating going on because the more opportunity you're given," he told The Post. "And that's the reason you see athletes, celebrities and politicians involved in affairs - the more other people thrust themselves at you."

Ashley Madison officials calculated the rankings by comparing Census data with the area codes of members.

According to the survey, more than 3 percent of adult residents are paid members of the site.
