BOHEMIA (WABC) -- Police are looking for the person who brutally killed eight kittens on Long Island.
They were found dead in bohemia. Now, a big reward for help finding the killers.
Their bodies were crushed and mutilated, police said. Investigators say it was done by a human, not another animal.
"This is a level of brutality I've never seen, I've never heard of it in the animal rescue community," Matthew Festa of Guardians of Rescue said.
"It's a scary situation to know an individual as sick as this is out there," Frank Floridia of Guardians of Rescue said.
The kittens were part of a feral colony in Bohemia. They were few weeks old to only a few days old. One local woman, who did not want to be identified, was their caretaker. She made the grisly discovery last Friday when she came for their routine morning feeding.
"I saw the mothers huddled together, I knew something was wrong," she said. "I looked at them. They looked at me. I looked back at them and past them and saw all the babies, dead, and I fell to my knees
The Suffolk County SPCA is determined to find who did this, but they need help and are urging people to call if they have any information.
"We need you. Care now. Let's get these people off the street," Roy Gross of Suffolk County SPCA said.
"To try to understand the mind process of a person to go after something so innocent, I haven't been able to wrap my head around it. I haven't," Karen Zvonik of Guardians of Rescue said.
Anyone with information should call the Suffolk County SPCA AT 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
