Puppy theft caught on camera

Monday, July 23, 2012

You have to see it to believe it. Surveillance video shows a man stealing a Pomeranian puppy by stuffing it in his pants.

The little one tries to get out, but the man covers up its head with his shirt and walks out, making a run for it once he gets out the door.

Harsha Perera owns Zoo-Rama Pets in Elmont. He says his son was working the day the two men came in.

One man was meant to serve as a distraction, Perera explained. He asked Perera's son about a pug. While he was doing that, the other guy went up to the front of the store and tried to break into the register. It was locked

"He tried three times in the course that they were here," Perera said.

Eventually the guy gave up and set his eyes on the 9 week old Pomeranian.

Perera says they believe he was talking on the phone to his accomplice, who continued to distract Perera's son in the back.

The suspect waited for the go ahead and at the right moment snatched the puppy

"If somebody knows the guy and can give any tips to police we would appreciate that," Perera said.
