Police catch alligator in Long Island parking lot

Wednesday, October 03, 2012

Officers have captured an alligator seen walking across the parking lot of a supermarket in Baldwin Tuesday.

Police were called to a Pathmark parking lot on Grand Avenue just before 8 p.m., where the 3-foot gator was spotted running loose.

Officers chased the gator and cornered it in some bushes.

Animal Control officers are now trying to find it a proper home.

It's not clear if the gator was being kept as a pet.

The county Emergency Services Unit turned it over to a local wildlife expert.
