Woman fatally struck while crossing Sunrise Highway

BABYLON (WABC) -- Detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in West Babylon early Sunday morning.

A driver noticed a woman leaning against the center median on westbound Sunrise Highway near Jerome Avenue.

The driver turned around to check on the woman, but by then other drivers had stopped and found the woman lying dead in the left lane.

Police have identified her as Jennifer Wheeler, from North Lindenhurst.

Her family asked Eyewitness News for privacy.

Investigators do not have any witnesses or a vehicle description. Anyone who has any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
