Man accused of filing false burglary report during Sandy

WHEATLEY HEIGHTS (WABC) -- A Long Island man is facing charges, accused of lying about a break-in at his store during the height of Superstorm Sandy.

Suffolk County police say Wilguens Mentor falsely claimed burglars got into his store, Fly Forever Sneakers, in Wheatley Heights on October 31.

He allegedly reported that more than $60,000 in merchandise had been stolen.

Police say he planned to file a false claim with his insurance company.

Mentor is charged with second-degree attempted insurance fraud and third-degree falsely reporting an incident.
