Car hits gas pipe causing gas leak in Long Island

MASSAPEQUA, Long Island (WABC) -- A car went out of control and struck a Friendly's restaurant on Sunrise Highway, a little after 12 p.m.

No one was injured in the accident but the car did dislodge a gas pipe that leads into the restaurant causing a gas leak.

Sunrise Highway is currently closed in both directions between Park Ave and Hicksville Road.

Police are currently evacuating the building and surrounding homes.
