HUNTINGTON STATION (WABC) -- Suffolk County Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Huntington Station early Sunday morning.
An unidentified man was crossing New York Avenue north of East 12th Street when he was struck by a vehicle that was travelling southbound on New York Avenue. The accident happened shortly after 3:00 a.m.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office.
The vehicle, which was described as a full-sized dark colored sedan, fled the scene.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
