Alleged sports memorabilia thief flees police on Long Island
MERRICK (WABC) -- An accused sports memorabilia thief led police on a high speed chase on Long Island Thursday afternoon.
Police say 29-year-old Adam Gibson stole $2,000 worth of sports cards from a A and S Sports on Carman Avenue in Westbury.
When officers showed up at his Merrick home, he reportedly sped off in his car, running stop signs and passing several cars in an effort to get away.
Detectives followed Gibson for a short time before responding back to his home, where he returned a short time later and was placed under arrest.
While placing Gibson under arrest, police say he flailed his arms in an attempt to avoid being handcuffed.
No injuries were reported.
Gibson is charged with grand larceny, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, reckless driving and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
