4 robbery suspects nabbed after police chase

Saturday, April 09, 2011

Four men allegedly involved in a northern New Jersey jewelry store robbery have been captured after their getaway vehicle collided with a police cruiser following a chase through several towns.

Authorities say three of the suspects entered the Wyckoff store just before noon Saturday and used sledgehammers to smash display cases. They then fled with numerous items and fled in a sport utility vehicle driven by the other suspect.

The SUV was pursued by police from Wyckoff and several other nearby towns. One person soon jumped from the vehicle and was captured, but the chase continued until the SUV turned into a Hawthorne strip mall and collided with the cruiser.

Two Hawthorne officers were injured during the chase, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
