A Bronx teacher facing sex abuse charges made his first court appearance in New Jersey Wednesday and pleaded not guilty.

Police say 59-year-old Thomas Gibbons showed graphic pictures to the 11-year-old and said sexually explicit things.

Gibbons is a teacher at John F. Kennedy High School in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx.

Investigators say the crimes occurred when Gibbons visited relatives in Paterson.

Gibbons' attorney asked for a bail reduction, saying Gibbons' wife is pregnant and due to deliver a baby Thursday. The judge, however, deferred a decision until he sees more evidence in the case.

Anyone with additional information about this investigation can contact Chief Assistant Prosecutor Joseph A. Del Russo of the Passaic County Prosecutor's Special Victims Unit at 973-837-7626 or Passaic County Prosecutor's Detective James Stolz at 973-837-7736.
