ASBURY PARK -- Four national groups advocating for recognizing same-sex marriage are teaming up in New Jersey, saying that the state is primed to allow gay couples to wed.
The New Jersey United for Marriage campaign is based on the efforts that secured gay marriage rights in Rhode Island, Delaware and Minnesota.
The coalition includes Garden State Equality, the Human Rights Campaign, the Gill action Fund, Freedom to Marry and American Unity Fund, a Republican group. They will launch their effort Wednesday morning during an event in Asbury Park.
The group wants to get support of enough state lawmakers to override Gov. Chris Christie's veto last year of a bill to recognize gay marriage.
A lawsuit pushing the state courts to allow gay unions is scheduled for a key hearing next month.
