Linden, New Jersey woman accused of freezing puppies in cooler

LINDEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- A Linden woman is charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after four 5-week-old American Bulldog puppies were found frozen in a cooler.

Kimberly Matthews, 26, is said to have dropped off the cooler to a friend after she allegedy had a fight with her boyfriend who breeds the dogs.

Matthews allegedly told the friend the dogs were just sleeping when she dropped them off, but had allegedly told her boyfriend she was going to kill the puppies.

Police say Matthews denied responsibility for the dogs' deaths, but has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty, and a disorderly conduct offense.

Each charges carries a fine of between $500 and $2,000 and up to 6 months in jail.
