Newark shooting leaves 2 dead, 3 others wounded

Authorities say two people were killed and three others wounded in a shooting Tuesday morning outside a restaurant in Newark.

The shooting took place at about 11:30 a.m. on the 400 block of Springfield Avenue in the West Ward.

Shots were fired at a car, hitting at least three people inside.

City Police Director Samuel DeMaio told (The Star-Ledger) that the car's driver, Akbar Muhammad, and a female passenger were killed in the shooting.

The three other victims were all hospitalized in stable condition.

The Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting.
