3 Columbia frats suspended after drug arrests

Thursday, December 09, 2010

Three Columbia University fraternities have been suspended after five of its members were arrested on charges of selling drugs.

The school's student affairs dean said Alpha Epsilon Pi, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Psi Upsilon fraternities must stop recruitment, initiation and all social activities pending further review. The national chapters were notified.

The students were charged Tuesday with selling LSD-spiked candy and other drugs on the Ivy League campus. They pleaded not guilty to multiple drug dealing charges alleging they were supplied by violent traffickers. Prosecutors say two of the students told investigators they needed the money to pay for tuition.
