A husband and wife died when their minivan careened into a concrete median on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx early Wednesday.

The accident happened just before 6:00 a.m.

Police say a Chevy mini-van headed southbound on Grand Course near 164th when the driver, in his 70's, slammed into the concrete median.

"The whole front end was completely inched back... this thing was just head on. What I saw," Juan Lopez said.

The driver's wife, in her 60's was in the passenger seat.

They were taken to separate hospitals where they were pronounced dead.

Police said both were wearing seat belts.

Investigators said it's not clear at the point what may have caused the driver to steer off the road.
