List of endangered FDNY companies released

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Mayor Bloomberg's office has released the list of 20 FDNY companies that could close.

Eight of the companies on the list are located in Brooklyn, four in Queens, three in the Bronx and in Manhattan, and two on Staten Island.

The Bloomberg administration handed over the list following a contentious Council hearing on Monday.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has targeted up to 20 companies for closure, which could provide savings of $55 million, to help balance the budget.

The FDNY had refused to identify any companies slated to close, saying there was no need to alarm anyone before the final decision.

City Council members threatened to file a subpoena to get the list, saying they had a right to know which communities could lose a fire company before they voted on the budget.
