STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- A 5-week-old kitten was thrown from the window of a moving car in a disturbing case of cat cruelty.
The kitten survived and has been given the name "Verrazano" because he was tossed out on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
"It's just unthinkable," Animal Care and Control officer Richard Gentles said.
Gentiles just happened to be driving on the bridge when he witnessed the heartless act. He says he stopped his car - and with the help of some concerned truck drivers who helped blocked traffic - safely rescued the kitten, which was close to the edge of the bridge. An AC&C spokesman says it happened on Saturday.
The black kitten was taken to AC&C's Staten Island facility, where a checkup revealed no injuries.
"He hit the side of the wall," Gentles said. "He's incredibly lucky, this little kitty."
The organization wants to hear from anyone who can help identify the person who threw the kitten out of the car.
If you have information or you are interested in adopting Verrazano, please email AC&C at info@nycacc.org.
