CANARSIE (WABC) -- Shattered glass along the driveway was a grim reminder of the not-so-typical start to the day at the Rio gas station on Ditmas Avenue in Canarsie.
Police were called just before midnight when a driver delivering gasoline was shot in the face as he sat in his tanker truck.
"Never had someone shoot somebody like that, you know, for nothing. You know maybe they think he have some money with him. Maybe he told them he don't have no money," said Simon Aiash, the victim's boss.
Aiash owns the delivery company and says his employee, identified as Glendon Grant, had actually made his delivery, left a receipt. He was preparing to leave the station when four young men on bicycles approached him and he was shot.
Grant was rushed to nearby Brookdale Hospital Medical Center.
"I went with him until like 4:30 in the morning. I was in the hospital until they say to us we cannot say to you nothing more because we don't know where is the bullet until we make a cat scan," Aiash said.
We're told security cameras at the station captured some or all of the bike-riding suspects, though not the shooting. Detectives have not yet released the videotape.
While police don't know if robbery or perhaps gang-activity was the motive behind the shooting, those who know the victim say he didn't deserve this, describing him as a very good guy.
