NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's prom season for high school students which means corsages, boutonnieres and condoms?
That was the plan at one Brooklyn high school as administrators and staffers were planning on passing out condoms to students after the prom.
Then came the outcry.
Walking out of Bedford-Stuyvesant High School, Principal Darryl Rascoe said condoms would no longer be made available after the dance.
His heart seemed to be in the right place, making donated Nuvo condoms available at the junior/senior prom on June 7th.
But after the contraceptive concept picked up steam, Rascoe told Eyewitness News exclusively, he was backing down.
"I don't want to do anything against DOE policy," he said.
Condoms are already available at all New York City high schools. With a signed parental consent form, the DOE says any student can go to the condom room and get free condoms.
