NYPD officer gets 5 years for false arrest

NEW YORK -- A New York City police officer accused of racism while making a false arrest will spend nearly five years in prison.

Officer Michael Daragjati was given the maximum sentence Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court. He pleaded guilty in January to making a false arrest.

Authorities say Daragjati, who's white, falsely arrested a black man in April 2011 on Staten Island.

They say the officer was angry because the man had complained about being stopped and frisked.

Authorities say the officer later used the "N-word" to describe the man in a conversation caught on a wire.
