Witness speaks out on McCarren Park beating

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

A terrified teenager chased through a Brooklyn park, and beaten, might owe his life to a man who was not afraid to get involved.

A Good Samaritan tells Eyewitness News the attack only happened 10 feet away from him. He says the fight involved 8 to 10 teenagers and that they had baseball bats and glass bottles and at least one knife.

The incident took place at McCarren Park, but according to a criminal complaint, authorities have only arrested two people.

"There were at least 8 people beating on one victim...I witnessed at least one person stab the victim in the back area," he said.

The incident took place across the street from McCarren pool where two incidents happened last week.

Park advocates are looking for more patrols. "There are police officers, they have the exact same status as NYPD officers (with no guns," said Geoffrey Croft.
