School bus nightmare for Queens child

HOWARD BEACH (WABC) -- The new school year has meant four mornings of frustration for Shanie Fryer and her 3 year old daughter Annaya. The child's bus has either shown-up hours late or not at all.

Shanei Fryer, who lives in Howard Beach, Queens, says the bus is supposed to pick up Annaya between 7 and 7:30. But on the first day of school last Wednesday, the bus came nearly three hours late.

The next day, the bus didn't show up at all.

Fryer says the bus was two hours behind schedule on Friday, and then today, another no show.

Many of the problematic buses are privately operated though paid for by the Department of Education, which has said it's looking into the matter.

According to a spokeswoman at Annaya's special ed pre-k program run by Heart Share Human Services, as many as half of its students have been dealing with similar busing issues.
