2 arrested, loaded assault rifle recovered

NEW YORK -- Two men have been arrested on gun and drug possession charges after the NYPD found a loaded assault rifle and 49 cartridges in their car.

Andy DeJesus of Staten Island and Eugene Ubiles of Manhattan were charged with multiple felony counts of criminal weapons possession and a felony count of drug possession.

The Staten Island Advance (http://bit.ly/T1r2Dn) says police found the weapon and ammunition inside a bag after spotting the suspects smoking marijuana in the car on a Staten Island street last Thursday.

According to court papers, the AR-15.223-caliber Bushmaster rifle had a pistol grip, folding telescoping stock and flash suppresser.

The court documents said police also found 33 plastic bags of heroin inside a cigarette box on the floor.
