Staten Islanders protest Verrazano toll hike

STATEN ISLAND (WABC) -- Some Staten Islanders say a recent toll hike is way too high.

On Saturday, they gathered near an entrance to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to protest.

The MTA recently hiked the basic toll to cross the span to 15 dollars.

The EZ Pass rate for Staten Island residents is lower.

Protesters say even with that discount, the toll is more than average folks can afford.
