Car jumps curb in Queens killing 1 teenager and injuring 4 other pedestrians
NEW YORK (WABC) -- A teenage boy was killed and four others injured when a car involved in an accident jumped a curb in Queens, striking them.
The incident took place in front of LaGuardia Community College on Thomson Avenue and 30th street.
One pedestrian was killed, four others injured.
Police say three cars collided, sending a minivan careening onto a median.
The burgundy van jumped the curb, slamming into 5 people including the dead teen, identified as 16-year-old Drudak Tenzin .
Tenzin was a student at Applied Communications High School. The Department of Education released the following statement:, "We are arranging for a crisis team to offer counseling to students and staff at the school."
Witnesses say the minivan driver did everything they could to stop the vehicle but could not before hitting the pedestrians and then slamming into a tree.
"He lost control of the car, he was really trying to stop," said one witness.
Four other people suffered non life-threatening injuries.
The id of the driver of the vehicle has not been released.
