Brooklyn smartphone robbery caught on video - Eyewitness News Exclusive

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has obtained video of a violent attack on a woman who was robbed for her Samsung Galaxy smartphone in Brooklyn.

"The first thing I saw was a punch," said Sara, the victim.

It was the first of many powerful blows, so intense; they knocked the 36-year-old woman to the ground.

"He took my phone after the first or second punch, grabbed it from my hand, but he just proceeded to beat my face with all of his might, aiming punches like a boxer," Sara said.

Eyewitness News is calling her "Sara" because she's too afraid to use her real name or show her face, because her attacker, the man seen in the surveillance video, is still out there.

"Were you fighting back?" Eyewitness News asked.

"With the best of my ability, I was protecting my face from a rain of punches," Sara said.

It was nearly impossible, and her face is still badly bruised, her knees still raw, even now a week after this attack.

Sara was coming home from work; it was late, 1 in the morning on Wednesday, when the suspect approached her from behind on Lake Street near Avenue W in the Gravesend section.

She doesn't remember hearing footsteps, but will never forget the look in his eyes.

"He had no emotional response on his face, no anger, no rage," Sara said.

Sara told Eyewitness News the vicious attack lasted more than a minute, that she was knocked to the ground several times, but wouldn't get up, convinced the only way she would walk away from this was to keep screaming.

"That was my priority, was not to shut up, it felt like he was looking to knock me out," Sara said.

"Did you think he was going to kill you?" Eyewitness News asked.

"That was my second thought, I hope he doesn't have a knife, hope he doesn't have a knife and stab me," Sara said.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 25 years old, standing about 5-foot-9 with a thin build. Police have released a sketch of the suspect (click here to see the sketch).
