MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (WABC) -- A fire ripped through a multi-family home in Mount Vernon Tuesday afternoon.
An elderly resident is missing and presumed dead.
The fire broke out just before 3 p.m. at the building on West Second Street.
The resident is identified as 77-year-old Rita Valentine.
Fire officials say they won't be able to get in the building to search for Valentine until Wednesday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
