GROTON (WABC) -- A grade school teacher in Connecticut is in trouble for disciplining students who talked out of turn by having them hold a paper towel between their lips.
Parents in Groton are outraged and have started a petition to get the teacher fired. They are also considering legal action.
"Anybody that would ask a child to put something in their mouth is an abuse of power and that's...you know, in my opinion she should be terminated," parent Gina Scumaci said.
The fourth grade teacher at Northeast Academy has 20 years experience and is on administrative leave until after the Easter break.
School officials call it an error in judgment.
