ALBANY -- When there are two generations of governors in a family, what does a son get his father as a birthday gift? An official portrait, of course.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo presented his father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo, with his portrait on Saturday. The oil painting will be displayed in the State Capitol's Hall of Governors.
Andrew Cuomo said his father instilled in him the value of public service. The three-term former governor turned 80 this month.
The picture was painted by Simmie Knox, whose works include the official White House portrait of former President Bill Clinton.
Knox based the portrait on a 1989 photograph. It was commissioned by the Friends of Mario M. Cuomo.
