GREENWICH, Conn. -- Power has been restored to most customers in Greenwich after a massive tree brought down by a storm took out two power lines.
Connecticut Light & Power said Monday evening that it was still trying to restore about 100 Greenwich customers but that about 30,000 in Greenwich and nearby Stamford had electricity restored.
During the outage, Greenwich officials had asked businesses and residents to conserve water to help reduce the strain on pump stations and treatment plants. MetroNorth Railroad switched to diesel trains for a time between Stamford and New York and advised customers to expect crowds and delays.
A powerful thunderstorm raked much of Connecticut on Sunday. A power company spokesman said the tree fell on one line, and branches later knocked out a second circuit.
