MOUNT KISCO -- A New York doctor and Kennedy family friend says nurses were to blame for a maternity ward scuffle that led to Douglas Kennedy's arrest.
The son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy is accused of kicking a nurse and twisting the arm of another nurse as he tried to take his newborn son from a suburban New York hospital in January.
The nurses claim Kennedy was violating hospital policy.
But Dr. Timothy Haydock, who was with Kennedy, testified Thursday that Kennedy had permission from nurses. He said another nurse arrived and threatened to call in an abduction alarm.
Haydock said the nurse who claims she was kicked instigated the scuffle by lunging at Kennedy and trying to take the baby from him.
Kennedy's trial is to continue Friday.
