DEERPARK, N.Y. -- A New York man wanted by upstate police on rape and other charges has been shot and killed by a citizen after a confrontation.
New York State Police say Norris Acosta-Sanchez confronted David Carlson Friday morning on his property in the Town of Deerpark, about 94 miles northwest of New York City.
They say the 35-year-old Acosta-Sanchez was wanted by police in Rockland County on a second-degree rape warrant.
Troopers say the 42-year-old Carlson, armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, told Acosta-Sanchez they would go to a neighbor's house and call police.
But at some point, troopers say Carlson fired four shots, fatally striking Acosta-Sanchez. Carlson was charged with second-degree murder. He was in custody and unavailable for comment Friday. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
