Caught on tape: Boston tractor trailer plunges off highway

Tuesday, August 06, 2013

A tractor-trailer flew off a section of elevated highway on an interstate in Boston after police say it was sideswiped by another driver, and the entire horrific incident was caught on video.

Amazingly, the truck driver survived the crash.

The truck went airborne over the guardrail, plunging about 20 feet down onto an exit ramp.

The box of the Boston Globe delivery truck was ripped apart like cardboard

The video, taken from a highway camera, shows traffic on I-93 North. After the collision, the truck cab hit the off ramp head on, with the mangled truck rolling over until it slid to a stop.

Police found 25-year-old Vivencia Bellegarde pulled over on the breakdown lane. Officers smelled a moderate odor of alcohol on her breath and noticed her eyes were blotched and bloodshot.

The single mother of a 5-year-old son has a driving record with 10 suspensions, including the one resulting from this crash.

She is charged with drunk driving and being held on $10,000 bail.

The driver, 35-year-old Paul Healey, suffered a broken leg and other non-life threatening injuries.
