Man carjacks ambulance with patient inside

PHILADELPHIA (WABC) -- A patient in Philadelphia is being treated tonight after a dangerous detour on the way to the hospital.

His ambulance was carjacked.

Police said a man threatened the paramedics with a gun and demanded the vehicle.

He sped away with the patient inside.

He allegedly ditched the ambulance a short time later and ran away.

Police arrested the suspect and the patient was taken to the hospital.

Authorities say he was not being transported for a life threatening emergency.
