NEW YORK (WABC) -- Bill Thompson carried his message across New York, with supporters chanting "eight is enough" and telling voters this election is not going to be a blow-out.
"I feel very confident. It also depends on whose poll you take a look at. We're looking at our poll numbers and they say we're down between three and seven points, so I'm enthused by that. We're closing the gap," Thompson said.
While Thompson is citing his own internal poll, an independent poll like Marist from Friday shows Bloomberg is leading 53 to 38 percent.
Thompson's closing message on tv is critical of Bloomberg's changing the term limit law.
Bloomberg is on tv much more, given his massive spending. His closing message is also more upbeat than Thompsons.
"You know, there's a lot at stake in this election. Every vote counts and with your vote we can make this city better," Bloomberg says in one ad.
The mayor's day began by kicking off the marathon, and then onto campaigning.
It was a day of rallies like one before the city's Independence Party. These voters could make a big difference on Tuesday.
"This election is not about partisan politics. It's not about me. This election is about a goal I think we all share and I think this city shares. It's keeping government non-partisan and keeping our progress going," Bloomberg said.
Bloomberg knows the Independence Party has a troubled history, but it provides him a line on the ballot for those who just can't vote Republican.
"You see, it's not just a negative. It's a positive. People who don't want to vote republican, this is another option," said Jacqueline Salit of the New York Independence Party.
Eyewitness News will have complete coverage of the results on Tuesday night, both on Channel 7 and on 7online.com.
